Jan Thomas

gaithersburg 10K coach

After my mom had a stroke in 2001,  I needed a way to feel like I was doing something to help stroke victims (and to get myself healthier to help lessen the chances of become a victim myself).  I trained with Team to End Stroke, raised a bunch of money and completed a full marathon in Jamaica in December of 2001.  I was hooked for sure, both on running and on giving back.

I continued running informally with friends, completing over 10 half marathons and many smaller races.  After retiring from full time work in 2014, I obtained my RRCA certification and joined the coaching team of a local running store, where I coached walking, 5K and 10K programs.  I love supporting these shorter distance programs, where people are just finding their own potential.  It’s a joy to watch people cross a finish line they never believed they could.

I am excited to bring my enthusiasm, expertise and experience to the new Charm City Running Store in Kentlands.
