Katie Heyl

Mighty miler coach

Katie Heyl has been a part of the Charm City Run family since 2004. She worked for over six years managing the Timonium location. During her time managing the store, Katie began coaching the Charm City Run half marathoners in 2007 until 2018 and then marathoners in 2019. Over those 12 years, she has guided hundreds of runners to their first or fiftieth endurance event.

Katie grew up swimming competitively in Wilmington, DE and went on to compete at the Division I, collegiate level at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York. After graduating in 2002, she picked up a pair of running shoes. She ran a 5k, then a half marathon, then a full marathon and was hooked! Since 2002 she has gained valuable experience from participating in 5ks, 10ks, 10 milers, half marathons, marathons, trail races, fundraising teams like Team in Training, Pacing for Parkinson's and Team Fox for Parkinson's Research, Ragnar races, as well as other endurance events such as triathlons, open water swims, cycling and century rides. She is a multiple time Boston Marathon qualifier with a marathon PR of 3:18.36 and a half marathon PR of 1:30.10.

Katie is the mother of three children; two of which began Mighty Milers in 2019. She and her kids loved the program so much they are returning (and hoping to recruit the littlest Heyl when she is of age) and Katie decided to become a MM coach!

“I absolutely love Mighty Milers! It is such an adorable and unique program that welcomes a wide range of kids that are either just getting into running or have years of experience. After coaching adults for more than a decade, I am just as blown away by these amazing kids. And to share in this experience with my own children is really special."
