Making the decision to take on running not only as a form of staying fit, but as a hobby can be intimidating. Whether you discovered your love for running at an early age, or decided to give it a shot later on in life, it is safe to say that some advice, and answered questions could have been very helpful to get you going in the beginning.
Run Happy Revolution Training: Day 1 in the Books
I am a twenty-two year old ex-high school 3-sport athlete, and I have never run more than one mile straight in my life. Sprints, lifting, light jogs, 1-mile runs; those are the exercises I’m used to, so the thought of completing a 5K in anticipated cold weather was embarrassingly intimidating to me.

Winter Running Gear for Beginners
"If you wait for perfect conditions, you'll never get anything done."
We're not sure who said that, but we'd like to thank them for giving us the motivation to lace up when it's below 30 degrees outside! Running in the cold (especially when we're staring down a winter blizzard!) can be challenging, but knowing how to dress properly will make a world of difference. Here's the gear you need to stay safe, warm and happy on you winter runs:
Baby it's cold outside!
Running in winter can be TOUGH. There's nothing like a 14 degree morning that makes us want to skip the run and hop back into bed. But, new cold weather gear and a packed race schedule is all we need to get out the door and rack up the miles. Last week, Deirdre spent a few minutes with Fox News sharing winter running tips and tricks. Check them out below, then tell us how you keep motivated in chilly temperatures.

Small Business Saturday - Shop Local!
Thanksgiving is tomorrow and with that comes one of our favorite days of the year - Small Business Saturday! As everyone maps out their plan of attack for their holiday shopping, we hope you are doing so with independent businesses. Did you know that sales made by independent retailers actually help create more jobs than large, online retailers? In fact, based on an analysis by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, for every $10 million in sales, independent retailers create 57 jobs, while large, online retailers such as Amazon create only about 14 jobs for the same amount sold. Plus, supporting your local businesses puts money back in your own local community - about half of every dollar sold in fact.
Shopping with independent businesses MATTERS, because your community needs you. We're so thankful to have had the support of our community for the past 13 years! Check out some of our favorite independent businesses around Maryland.

Frederick Runner of the Month: David Welch (November 2015)
The beauty about this runner is how truly humble he is in this sport. If you talk to him post-race it’s almost like he is still shocking himself with these finishing times. He has found the magic potion to juggle family life, work and training to not only complete some of the toughest races on the east coast but dominate them! It is our honor to introduce to you, David Welch, a loving father of 3 boys, husband and friend to many as our November Runner of the Month.
