As a runner (although that term could be applied loosely these days), spring is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is starting to turn and suddenly 50 degrees doesn't seem so bad after all. If you trained through the winter you are excited to see what you can accomplish early on as you build toward your goals for the year. If you took the hibernation strategy it's time to get back to business, and building fitness is a humbling but rewarding experience. After a spectacular crash-and-burn in my first marathon attempt, the allure of redeeming myself has me getting back in the training mix. Either way, the roads and trails are buzzing with runners and walkers anxious to enjoy time outdoors.
We launched our 2022 season at the Under Armour Kelly Benefits St. Patrick's Day Shamrock 5K two and a half weeks ago, and it was nothing short of amazing. To see the streets flooded with runners and walkers in green felt like a return to normal. My favorite part was seeing friends I haven't seen in a year or two, and picking up right where we left off. We also welcomed new faces who joined our community during Covid and have fallen in love with the sport. You can see a few photos from the race on our Facebook page.
I am excited to bring the Under Armour Sole of the City 10K presented by Kelly Benefits back to April, and it's hard to believe the race is less than 2 weeks away! Our new location at Harbor Point is an amazing setting for the post-race party, and the course showcases beautiful harbor views and a few of the downtown neighborhoods that give our city the charm we love. Beer from Key Brewing, live music from Kanye Twitty, and premiums from Under Armour (for those who choose the "with premium" option) make this one of the highlights of the year. There's still time to sign up and celebrate at the finish with friends!
The fun doesn't stop with Sole of the City - the St. Michaels Running Festival on May 14th and Medstar Health Baltimore Women's Classic 5K presented by New Balance on June 26th will be here before we know it. The CCR Events team is excited to deliver a first-class experience for you, whether it's your first 5K or your 50th half marathon. You can see our full lineup of 2022 events here - we truly have something for everyone.
Wherever you are on your journey, I hope you'll join us at a race soon - we'll be there to celebrate with you at the finish!
