I have had quite a few people ask me; how do you stay so structured with your runs? They talk about how the first week or two they do well and then they miss a run here or there and it all starts to go sideways. Or maybe you are tired after that first week and so the thought of lacing up your shoes and getting out there is a bit daunting. You want to run but mentally you’re stuck. What is the secret to creating a running habit? There is not really a secret, however they are some key strategies I have put in place to help me keep my running at the forefront of my week!
Celebrating 10 Years of Running Sole of the City 10K
I recently signed up for my 10th Sole of the City (SOTC) 10K race for 2022. I have run every SOTC race since its inception in 2012 and SOTC was my first race ever. I had been running for about 3 years when a group of us (about 7) from work decided to all run a 10K race. One was an avid running, one was a couch potato, there were some others and then there was me, a relative newbie runner. We heard about a new race in downtown Baltimore put on by Charm City Run (CCR) called Sole of the City, at their then new location at McHenry Row. After running the race I was hooked on SOTC.
Take Your Pandemic Miles to the Next Step with a CCR Training Group and Race
During the pandemic most people found themselves not able to do many things that we took for granted, including our indoor physical fitness activities. With the gyms, yoga studios and pools closed many were forced to lace up their shoes and head out for a walk that eventually may have turned into a run.
At a gym maybe you were taking a class that was led by an instructor or you used a machine that provided you the workout for you to follow. But now it was just you and you had to do it on your own.
Happy Fall! Happy Trail Running!
If you haven’t tried trail running before or even if you’re already a trail runner, autumn is an absolutely beautiful time for it. Trail running provides many benefits to all runners and walkers.
We asked two of our Charm City Run team members, Troy Workman and Kevin O’Grady, who are trail running gurus to give us their tips, hints and recommendations!

Hope in the Midst of Tragedy: the Story of the Amy Schuerholtz Metz and Charm City Run Scholarship presented by Saucony
We started the Amy Schuerholz Metz and Charm City Run Scholarship presented by Saucony back in 2015 after a former store lead, Anthony, had a great idea to support our local high school students. This was a chance for us to not only support these great young men and women, but share their stories with Charm City Run Nation.
Why Join A Training Group - A Testimonial by TJ Taurisano
I had never been a part of a running training group before signing up with Charm City Run Annapolis in February 2021. I knew after the year of the pandemic, I needed something to push me towards getting back into shape and always enjoyed running as a casual hobby. Running with Charm City changed that hobby into an obsession!
20th Anniversary of the Run to Remember by Josh Levinson
I want to welcome you to the 20th Anniversary and last Run to Remember. In the fall of 2001, we were vacationing with family in Rehobeth Beach. We were still living in Austin but had made the decision to move home with Ben, who was nine months old, and open Charm City Run. We may have still been looking for our first location or we may have had the current Timonium location in our sights.
50 for 50 by Josh Levinson, Charm City Run Owner & Founder
For many years I thought about how cool it was that National (now Global) Running Day always fell around my birthday, June 3rd. Kelly Maurer our training director, former Annapolis store lead and friend, has this obsession with being epic. She has been epic and has attempted races that feature ultra-length and mental challenge. When Charm City Run was searching for something EPIC to do on National Running Day, Kelly had an idea for a 24-hour race in the Annapolis Towne Centre. As we know and appreciate, runners are a little funny, perhaps a little nuts, and to insiders, just the right amount of crazy.
Brain Insights for Better Run Training and Relationships by Dr. Melissa Hallmark Kerr
As runners and fitness enthusiasts, we know what it’s like to transform our psyches in as little as 20 sweaty minutes – i.e., to go from feeling flat, or off, to feeling good again. This is the real reason why we always find a way to move, even when we’re injured. Who doesn’t want to feel better? When we feel better, we treat ourselves and others better.
