Slow AF Run Club Book Signing and Fun Run with Author Martinus Evans

Martinus Evans, founder of Slow AF Run Club, is coming to Charm City Run Timonium! He recently wrote and published Slow AF Run Club: the ultimate guide for anyone who wants to run, a book for those who may not fit the image of a “traditional” runner. It’s a how-to guide aimed at helping those at the “back of the pack” feel empowered to lace up their running shoes and get moving in their body as-is.

Join us for a special Book Signing and Fun Run event with Martinus on Monday, June 12 at 6PM. We’ll start with a Fun Run/Walk and Brooks will be on-site with demo shoes to try. Then we’ll enjoy refreshments and a brief talk by Martinus about his experiences that led him to start Slow AF Run Club and write a book. Martinus will be available for Q&A, book signing and photos.

About the Book:

Slow AF contains specialized advice for slow runners from someone who started his running journey by falling off a treadmill (literally). Martinus Evans has been through it all–and has the cautionary tales to prove it. It’s a book designed to make getting started less intimidating, covering everything from the gear you need as a beginner and simple nutrition to training schedules, recovery tips, finding a group, and running races (including why it’s okay to come in dead f*cking last). Part blueprint, part workbook, and part hard-truth and humorous memoir, Slow AF is here to help you on every step of your journey, from jogging your first block to your first finish line and beyond.

About the Author:

Martinus Evans has run over eight marathons since his doctor told him to “lose weight or die” in July 2012. Since then, he’s also coached hundreds of runners and founded the Slow AF Run Club, a community of over 10,000 members worldwide. He is also the author of the book Slow AF Run Club: The ultimate guide for anybody who wants to run.  When he’s not running races around the world, he enjoys speaking passionately about issues related to size-inclusivity, mindset, DEI and mental health.

ASICS Blue Jean Mile Run for Mental Health Awareness Month

THE STORY

Johnny Gregorek, an ASICS elite athlete and American middle-distance runner, is the second fastest American to run the mile. But one of his more recent accomplishments and a unique record – the fastest to run a mile in blue jeans - holds a special place in his record books.

In May 2020, Johnny set out to break the world record for the Blue Jean Mile in honor of his brother, Patrick, who lost his battle with mental illness at just 21-years-old in 2019.

Paddy, as he was affectionately referred to by his family, enjoyed running for the fun of it, as Johnny had early on. And Johnny felt Paddy would have enjoyed watching him try to run the mile as fast as possible in a pair of blue jeans.

HOW WE CAN HELP

ASICS, a brand built on the ethos of SOUND MIND, SOUND BODY™, has been inspired by Johnny’s advocacy work around mental health and his use of his platform to educate people on mental illness.

Please join Charm City Run and ASICS on May 25 at 6PM for one of our own Blue Jean Mile Runs to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness Maryland and Delaware. Wear your blue jeans and we'll run a mile together then enjoy drinks and snacks. We'll also be offering a special discount and ASICS gift with purchase. Plus, ASICS will donate $5 for every pair of ASICS shoes purchased May 25 and Charm City Run will match to go to the National Alliance for Mental Illness Maryland and Delaware.

St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Leprechaun Run

Join us at 10am on Saturday the 18th at the Charm City Run Gaithersburg store for a Lucky Leprechaun Run!

We’ll meet at the store and walk/run a 3 mile route through the Kentlands.

Be alert! On the course you will have to hunt for Leprechauns! If you find a Leprechaun they will ask you a riddle. If you answer it correctly you’ll get a strand of golden beads. The amount of beads you have at the end of the run/walk will determine the raffle tickets that you get!

You can also earn extra golden beads if you take a picture with a Leprechaun (to prove that they’re real!) and tag @charmcityrungaithersburg.

We’ll have a raffle at the end of the run/walk and several lucky leprechaun hunters will win some raffle prizes.  Join us afterwards at Grape Escape for $2 off beer & wine.
